Can you isolate yourself from email, phones, instant messaging, Blackberries, the Internet, and devote your full attention to one task only? This is what I call “power work”.
It is probably such a drastic departure from your regular work routine that it will be rather difficult at first. So start easy with a 30 minute task. Select something that you’re confident you can complete in 30 minutes. Then gradually increase your power work periods. When you feel the satisfaction of actually completing tasks, this working style will become addictive.
I’m composing this with my favorite writing pen sitting in a swing outside on my deck. There are no electronic gadgets whatsoever around me. It is dark, even the animals are quiet. In the last 2 hours I have composed 7 blog entries and 1 article. What can you accomplish during a power work session?
